Al-Waleed Border Crossing Receives the First International Land Transit Shipment from Syria to Kuwait via Iraq

The General Commission of Customs announced on Saturday, May 23, 2026, the inauguration of a new trade route by receiving the first international land transit shipment under the Transports Internationaux Routiers (TIR) system. The shipment entered through the Al-Waleed border crossing from Syrian territory, en route to the State of Kuwait via the Safwan border crossing. The Commission confirmed that customs personnel completed the inspection and verification of seals and official documents with high flexibility and efficiency to ensure the shipment's passage in accordance with approved legal regulations. This strategic step represents a significant achievement toward activating international transport corridors and regional trade links. It will effectively contribute to accelerating trade flow, reducing costs, and saving time, aligning with governmental efforts to automate and modernize operations across all border crossings.
