Interior Ministry Reveals Comprehensive Plan to Develop Civil Status System and Launch Smart National ID Card
The Iraqi Ministry of Interior revealed today, Friday, a comprehensive plan to develop the civil status system in the country, including the launch of the second-generation smart national ID card within the coming months. The Minister of Interior said in a press conference that the plan aims to update the digital infrastructure of the directorate and electronically link it with all ministries and government institutions. He added that the new card will include an advanced electronic chip carrying the citizen's personal data and biometric fingerprint, ensuring a high level of security and limiting forgery and counterfeiting operations. The minister stressed that the plan also includes establishing modern civil status centers in governorates suffering from service shortages, as well as training technical staff on using modern technologies. He revealed the signing of a cooperation agreement with an international company specialized in digital technologies to implement the project. This project comes within the framework of government efforts aimed at simplifying government procedures and reducing administrative routine. Citizens welcomed this step, while emphasizing the need to ensure service continuity without interruption. The minister called on all citizens to visit civil status directorates to update their data in preparation for the transition to the new system.
